Pekanbaru is the capital of Riau Province in Sumatra, Indonesia. The name of the city is literally translated as ‘new market’. Located on the Siak River, the city is known as a natural trading port due to its access to the Strait of Malacca. Nowadays, since the city serves as a gateway to Indonesia from Singapore, it still is a favored destination for travelers who want to go further explore the jewel of the Siak River.
