Palembang was once home of the legendary Sriwijaya Empire and has managed to become one of the unique cities in Sumatra with strong remains of Buddhism culture and architecture worth to explore.

Commercial & Culture

Palembang is known as the home to the legendary Sriwijaya Kingdom with historical influences that shaped the early formation of Nusantara, specifically the largest Buddhist Kingdom in Southeast Asia. Aside from its famous Pempek dish, Palembang also has tourism potential that is as good as other cities in Sumatra and now often dubbed as the Modern Sriwijaya Empire.

The Ampera Bridge is a mandatory place for tourists to visit. This bridge has become an icon and a representation of the city of Palembang. Built in 1962, the bridge was finished within a period of 3 years. What makes the bridge unique is due the various choice of souvenirs that you can find about 50 meters from the bridge.

The Kemaro Island is also an interesting worth to explore which is only 6 KM from the Ampera Bridge. At this moment, Kemaro is regarded as one of the most visited places in Palembang due to its unique Buddhist monastery situated on an island. Here, you can also found a tomb of the princess of Palembang, who said was married to the son of the king of China, but then end her life tragically by drowning herself into the river.

If you are a sport fan then you are lucky since Palembang have the Jakabaring Sport City also known as Jakabaring Sport Complex, which is an integrated sports facility complex in Palembang. This area was once deserted and feared due to its criminal and mystical vibes. However, the negativity of the area was wiped out by the municipal government by transforming it into a modern sport complex with international standard.

The Jakabaring Sport Complex is also known for hosting national multi-sport event such as Southeast Asian Games 2011, Islamic Solidarity Games 2013, ASEAN University Games 2014, Asian Triathlon Championship 2017 and in the near time it will be Asian Games 2018. Furthermore, the sport complex also includes Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium, which is the home for the Sriwijaya F.C football club.
